Dorsal fin membranes lightly speckled withmelanophores. Caudal and anal fin ray margins pigmented.Peritoneum light but pigmented. Mouth terminal,oblique and rictus reaches back to anterior eye margin. Apelvic axillary scale present. Scales subcircular to oval.Pharyngeal teeth strongly hooked, concave below hookand serrated. Gill rakers short reaching adjacent rakerwhen appressed. Gut short and S-shape. Number of analfin rays higher in females. Mostly in qanats, also, in rivers,streams and springs with a stream-like environment,relatively shallow, medium to slow current, some submergentand emergent aquatic vegetation and varyingbottoms. In water temperatures of 15-30°C and conductivityof 300-1000 μS. Maximum total length 110 mm.Spawning in spring and early summer. Food includeaquatic insects, invertebrates and plants.
