Biology : 

Back dar k olive br own to gr ey, with a nar -row stripe. Flank with a dark stripe, as wide as the pupil.Flank below the stripe, belly and lower head silvery.Front of lower jaw dark. Iris silvery on lower half anddark above. Dorsal and caudal fins faintly pigmentedgrey and other fins colorless. Mouth oblique, terminaland relatively small. Pelvic axillary process present. Afleshy keel in front of vent, equaling length of 1-4 scales.Gill rakers fine and shorter than half of eye diameter,dentitioned and hooked at the end. Peritoneum black.Male specimens with small scattered tubercles on topand side of head and rays of fins. Inhabits middle reachesof freshwater rivers with gravel bottoms. Maximum totallength 218 mm. Spawning in May to July. Food includeinsects, crustaceans, worms and filamentous algae.

Distribution 

Endemic to Or umiyeh basin (Most r ivers, including Zarrinehrud, Soofichai and Talkhehrud rivers).
