Iris silvery on lower half anddark above. Dorsal and caudal fins faintly pigmentedgrey and other fins colorless. Mouth oblique, terminaland relatively small. Pelvic axillary process present. Afleshy keel in front of vent, equaling length of 1-4 scales.Gill rakers fine and shorter than half of eye diameter,dentitioned and hooked at the end. Peritoneum black.Male specimens with small scattered tubercles on topand side of head and rays of fins. Inhabits middle reachesof freshwater rivers with gravel bottoms. Maximum totallength 218 mm. Spawning in May to July. Food includeinsects, crustaceans, worms and filamentous algae.
