Unbranchedray of dorsal fin weak. Gut elongated. Femaleswith shorter barbels and longer anal and ventral fins. Tubercleson head and lining margin of anterior belly, inmales. Prefers sandy or stony and rapid and welloxygenatedwaters. Adults migrate to warmer waters. Itis used as a bait. Maximum total length 75 cm. A herbivorousspecies. This species is only recently reported fromIran and there is a little information about it.
