Biology : 

Body moder ately compr essed. Snout moder -ately stout and rounded. Mouth almost horizontal andsubterminal. Tip of mouth cleft below the level of lowermargin of the eye. The junction of lower jaw and quadrate,on about a vertical through the middle of eye. Asharp scaled ventral keel between pelvics and anal fin.Unbranched pectoral fin ray not lined with melanophores.Orbit diameter equal to snout length but smallerthan interorbital width. Pelvic axillary scales extend overproximal bases of anal fin, forming a sheath. Upper andlower body profile convex. Pigmentation above and belowlateral line pores not apparent on mid lower flank. Afaint dark stripe on the lateral side. Peritoneum silverywith dark pigmentations. Inhabits upper riches of rivers,in clear, well-oxygenated, low in pollutions waters below20°C, with a stony bed and neutral to acidic pH andbushy shore. Maximum age 3 years, total length 106 mmand weight 14 g. Maturity at 1-2 years and at least 31mm total length. Spawning in spring ,on sand or graveland in medium-flowing waters. Absolute fecundityabout 1,800 adhesive eggs of up to 1.3 mm in diameter.Food mostly include aquatic insect larvae.

Distribution 

Endemic to Namak (J ajr ud and Qomrud rivers) and Kavir basins (Ali Spring of Damghan).
