Biology : 

Body compr essed. Snout shor t and slightlypointed. Mouth oblique and terminal. Tip of mouth cleftabove the level of middle of the eye. The junction oflower jaw and quadrate, on about a vertical through theanterior eye margin. A smooth scaled ventral keel betweenpelvics and anal fin. Unbranched pectoral fin raynot lined with melanophores on its inner margin. Orbitdiameter larger than snout length and interorbital width.Pelvic axillary scales extend over proximal bases of analfin forming a sheath. Upper and lower body profile convex.Pigmentation above and below lateral line poresobscured on caudal peduncle. A faint dark stripe on thelateral side. Peritoneum silvery with dark pigmentations.Inhabits upper riches of rivers, in clear, well-oxygenated,low in pollutions waters below 21°C, with a stony bedand neutral to acidic pH and bushy shore. Maximum age3 years and total length 100 mm. Maturity at 1-2 years.Spawning in spring, on sand or gravel and in fastflowingwaters. Absolute fecundity about 2130 whitishadhesive eggs of 0.7 mm in diameter. Food mostly includeaquatic insects and plants.

Distribution 

Endemic to Far s basin (upper r eaches of rivers and qanats).
