Over all color silver y, but upper flank scalesoutlined by pigment. Fins yellowish-orange and pigmentedwith scattered melanophores. Two pairs of thin barbels.Last unbranched dorsal fin ray strong and sharpedgedbut smooth. Large scales regularly arranged overbody. A deep and compressed body. Peritoneum black. Alow sheath of scales at base of anal and dorsal fins whichencloses anal papilla. Pelvic axillary scale present. Scalewith few anterior radii and numerous posterior radii. Ascaled keel or ridge before dorsal fin as back narrowsdorsally. Teeth small, hooked at tip and strongly recurved,conical and have a small, concave to irregular oreven rounded grinding surface below the tip. Gut elongateand coiled. Mouth small, inferior and horseshoelike. Lips thick, continuous and fleshy with a large medianlobe to lower lip. Dorsal fin origin lies over or slightlyin advance of pelvic fin origin. In large rivers with stonybeds, at 21-23°C in summer. Maximum total length 194mm. Food include plants, insect larvae and benthic molluscs.
