Over all color gr eenish to yellowish, bellywhite. Dark spots about the same size as or larger thaneye over the body, head and fins. Spots on fins elongated.Peritoneum dark brown to black. Last unbrancheddorsal fin ray very strong and bears denticles along atleast three-quarters of its length. Scales have few radiion all fields, fine circuli and a focus slightly subcentral.Gill rakers broad based and triangular with highly tuberculardistal or foliose margin. Longest raker reaches onebelow when appressed. Third inner row tooth molariformand biggest. Mouth small, inferior and horseshoeshaped.Lips well-developed and fleshy. Median lobe oflower lip undeveloped. Barbels thick. Gut with manyanterior loops. Maximum age 7 years and total length 60cm. Growth rings best expressed in sectioned dorsal finrays. Sexual maturity at 3-4 years, 35 cm total lengthand 500 g weight. Spawning in April and May on rocks.Food mainly include molluscs, also, insects, detritus andaquatic plants.
