Caudal fin with two dark bars and dorsal fin withan anterior dark spot at its base. A dark band at caudalbase. Young fish with a row of dark speckles along lateralline. Peritoneum dark brown. Caudal fin emarginatedto almost forked. Caudal peduncle deep and lacksprotuberance under eye, in males. Dorsal fin origin nearercaudal base than snout tip and slightly before the pelvicfin origin. A dorsal crest may be present. Dentiformprocess on upper jaw, if present, rudimentary. Maximumage 1.5 years. Maximum total length 65 mm. Absolutefecundity about 450 yellowish eggs with a diameter of1.2 mm. Food include aquatic insect larvae and detritus.
