Body mar ked by a mar bled patter n in dar kfawn, by scattered light spots and 8-10 elongate darkspots along lateral line. Belly paler than the flank. Finsmostly dark but first dorsal, caudal and anal fins withlight margins. Pelvic fin anterior membrane with large,angular lateral lobes. Posterior nostril near edge of orbit.Upper lip moderately swollen and expanded towards themouth corners. Head width much greater than its depth.Interorbital distance not more than half eye diameter.Snout longer than eye diameter. Top of head and occiputwith cycloid scales. Lower jaw protrudes and angle ofjaws reaches back below anterior half of eye. Pelvic finwith a developed membrane and pointed lobes and notextend to anal opening. Caudal peduncle compressed.Caudal fin usually rounded, sometimes pointed or truncated.In shallow freshwaters of mountains with slowcurrent and muddy bottoms. Maximum age up to 3 yearsand total length 13 cm. Maturity in 2-3 years. Spawningfrom May to August at 11-20ºC in batches. Absolute fecundity1060 eggs with a diameter of up to 2.8 mm.Food include insect larvae.
