English Name : 

Brown, brook or spotted trout

Persian Name : 

Gezelala-ye khalghermez

Biology : 

Over all color light to golden br own. Flankssilvery and belly white to yellowish. Back and flankswith dark brown and orange or red spots. Young, sometimesadults, with 10-14 narrow parr marks and a few redspots along lateral line. Adipose fin orange with a lightmargin. Pyloric caeca 26-61. Spawning males with ahooked lower jaw and more intense and golden color.Mostly stream and river dwellers, but some in lakes andponds. Maximum age 18 years, total length 105 cm andweight 50 kg (Mostly 10-15 kg). Maturity at 2-4 yearsand about 20 cm total length. Migration to rivers in November-December and some in March-April. Spawningfrom October to January on gravel. Female excavates aredd into which spawning pair deposit eggs and sperm.Female covers redd with gravel after spawning. Absolutefecundity up to 13,500 eggs of up to 5 mm in diameter.Young may spend 2 years in their natal stream beforegoing to a lake, but some fish remain permanently instreams. Food include insects, crustaceans, molluscs,fishes, and frogs.

Distribution 

Caspian Sea (Tajan to Ar as r iver s), Orumiyeh (Liqvanchai River), and Namak basins (Jajrud and Karaj rivers). Also introduces to Tigris basin (Bazoft River).
